I have my niche. How does Affiliate Marketing work?

Affiliate Marketing is a business model that has 3 parts:

• A seller or product creator (so the company that sells a product and offers an affiliate program)
• An affiliate (That's you! You have identified your niche and want to monetize it. To do so, you have searched and found an affiliate program that matches what you are talking about on your blog)
• A consumer (A person looking for a product to solve a problem.)

The seller can be an entrepreneur or a large company (like Amazon). His interest is to offer a commission on his products to increase his turnover and his visibility. To do this, he offers affiliates a percentage on each sale made. The sales are tracked through an affiliate link. He certainly loses a little margin but he will gain new customers quickly.

The affiliate plays a role of business provider. He will promote products related to his niche through content such as blog articles or a Youtube channel.

For example, for golf enthusiasts, the product could be a program to start in this sport and you could promote it by giving your opinion after having tested the program. Or even after having followed it yourself!

How to choose an affiliate program?

When you are on an affiliate program's description page, you should check several things:

• Does the seller ask for an invoice to pay you your commissions? In which case you will have to create a micro-company (that's what I did and it's totally free 🙂 )
• What commission rate is applied ? 2% ? 10% 40% ? 10% of a 1000€ product will be for example more interesting than 40% of a 100€ product!
• What is the payment threshold to receive commissions?
• How soon does the seller pay out the commissions after a purchase and especially after the payment threshold is exceeded?
• Do you have the right to advertise the product on Google Ads or Facebook Ads for example? (not necessarily necessary, but if it comes to mind, it is better to make sure you have the right to do so).
• If you find a program for a subscription-based software, make sure that the commission is also recurring (monthly).

What tools should I use to get started?

To get started in affiliate marketing, you will need a few tools (not necessarily all at once, on the contrary).

A blog of course

The first one I would advise you to do is clearly to create a blog with blogger. It's free, it only requires your time and all the content you create will work for you in the very long term.

You will be able to place your affiliate links on each of your articles. Over time, your articles will get more and more hits and therefore more and more clicks and sales.

A Youtube Channel

With my blog, I have to say that Youtube is my favorite channel. And yet, at first I didn't want to get into it and show myself on camera.

However, I forced my nature without question for weeks. I created a first video, then a second one and finally this exercise became normal. I even have fun!

And on each Youtube video, I bring a maximum of value to help the people who watch my videos and in return I put affiliate links in the description: win/win!

A Facebook account dedicated to your affiliate activity

Ahh, Facebook... I've been avoiding all social networks for a long time because I was tired of seeing so much misinformation and bullshit circulating.

Besides, there is always a lot of it...

But I discovered the power of Facebook to develop its business.

All you have to do is join groups in your field (for example, if you are a sports coach, join groups of people who are looking to get back in shape, lose weight or sharpen their skills) and answer the questions that people in the group ask with quality.

Better yet! Don't wait for questions, just post in the groups and give your advice.

That way, you'll generate likes, comments and shares. And people will click on your profile name to learn more about you.
